But fans who want to get more from the characters may want to seek out these issues, both new and old, before the streaming series debuts. ![]() With Chris Evans’ Captain America likely out of the picture, how much of this storyline, if any, will be adapted directly into the TV show is unknown. The storyline continued until 1989’s “Captain America” #350. In the storyline, the government hires its own Captain America, and Steve Rogers continues to fight for liberty while wearing a predominantly black costume and calling himself simply “The Captain.” Artists for the storyline were Tom Morgan and Kieron Dwyer the story was written by Mark Gruenwald. Rogers refuses and gives up the costume of Captain America. In 1987’s “Captain America” #332, a government commission demands that Captain America answer solely to it. Walker eventually was approached by a government commission to replace Steve Rogers as Captain America. Actor Wyatt Russell has signed on to play Walker, who was first introduced in the comics as the gung-ho “Super Patriot” in 1986’s “Captain America” #323. The Disney Plus “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is set to introduce another character who was a Captain America fill-in in the comics: John Walker, the USAgent. It’s not yet known who, if anyone, will take on that role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, though “Avengers: Endgame” provided a possible direction in its closing moments. In the comics, both Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson have temporarily taken the place of Captain America. In the comic, written by Derek Landy with art by Federico Vicentini, a hit is put out on Bucky Barnes, leading him and the Falcon to race to uncover the new leader of Hydra before the group can execute a mass casualty event. In the show, according to Marvel, “following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities - and their patience - in Marvel Studios' The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” Marvel recently released a synopsis and release date for its upcoming Disney Plus series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” which follows up on the events of "Avengers: Endgame."
